Editorial Review

Her work for the Ventura County Probation Department brings Carolyn Sullivan face-to-face with the most depraved criminals, and serial killer Raphael Moreno is at the top of the list. But things get even darker when a single phone call propels her into a nightmare. Carolyn's brother, Neil, has discovered the body of his girlfriend floating in his swimming pool - and he's soon the prime suspect in her murder. Neil has an alibi: he was in bed with celebrity heiress Melody Asher. But when Melody refuses to back up Neil's story and the evidence against him mounts, the brother Carolyn thought she knew suddenly seems like a complete stranger. The key to everything seems to be Moreno, but getting inside his head is a dangerous game. Now Carolyn must find the courage to make the ultimate decision - whether to risk the lives of innocent people or save herself and those she loves most...

  • Great Plot, Strange Character Rating
Overall, the novel's mystery is its strong point. The clever weaving of several subplots with carefully constructed clues is well done, and left me guessing well into the end of the novel. That being said, I found the main character to be a bit too gutsy--there's brave and then there's unnecessary risk. Particularly if you are a single parent of two children. I also apparently don't understand why someone with her bravery and experience, not to mention propensity for solving crimes, would elect to be a... more info
  • Pew! Rating
This book must have been written by a high school freshman. I will gave it one star for excellent spelling throughout the entire book. The content, however, can be summed up in one word: TRITE. I downloaded the book as a Kindle Freebie. It is worth every penny I spent.
  • Held my attention which isn't easy! Rating
I saw this book was free for my kindle one day recently and thought that it sounded right up my alley. I like a good suspense/mystery/thriller since they usually hold my attention the best. I was not disappointed in this one and have ordered the other books in the series to read as well. I will also look for her other books to read. I had a hard time putting it down to do anything else and stayed up way too late to finish it. I'm starting the next one already.
  • Too convoluted Rating
I could tell the story was trying to be a good one and maybe if it had been better written it would have succeeeded, but as is as far as this reader goes it was very convoluted and hard to get a handle on which made me put more effort into it that I wanted to and with no return. It's just ok and I won't be reading it again or particularly recommending it to anyone.
